CanX Community — Terms of Service
Version 0.1 (draft) · Last updated 2026-07-18
1. Acceptance
By joining the waitlist, creating an account, or using CanX Community (the "Service"), you accept these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.
2. What CanX Community is — and is not
CanX Community is a peer-support and education platform. It is not a medical service, not a medical device, and not a substitute for professional medical care.
- Members share personal experience and support. That is not medical advice, and it may be wrong for your situation.
- Verified clinicians may share general educational information only. They are not forming a doctor–patient relationship with you, and they must not give you individualized diagnosis or treatment recommendations through the Service.
- Always consult your own oncologist or a qualified clinician before making any medical decision, or starting, stopping, or changing any treatment.
If you think you may have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.
3. Crisis and self-harm
If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, self-harm urges, or a mental-health crisis, the Service is not equipped to help you in the moment. Please reach:
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — call or text 988 (US)
- Crisis Text Line — text HOME to 741741
- 911 or your local emergency number
CanX Community includes automated crisis detection that surfaces these resources, but no automated system is a reliable substitute for human help. See our Safety & Crisis Policy.
4. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be 18 or older to create an account.
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity on your account.
- You may not impersonate any person or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation, credentials, or verification status.
- Clinician verification requires a valid NPI. Falsely claiming clinician status is a serious violation and grounds for immediate removal.
5. Your content and the license you grant
- You retain ownership of everything you post.
- You grant CanX Community a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute your content within the Service for the purpose of operating the community. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already shared with other members (for example, a quoted reply) and routine backups that expire on normal rotation.
- You are responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to post it.
- We do not claim ownership of your content and we will not sell it.
6. Community standards — what you may not post
To keep this a safe place for people at their most vulnerable, you agree not to post content that:
- Is illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, or bullying
- Is sexually explicit, or sexualizes minors in any way
- Promotes self-harm or suicide, or encourages others to harm themselves (seeking support is always welcome; encouraging harm is not)
- Gives individualized medical, dosing, or treatment instructions to another member, or solicits such instructions as a substitute for professional care
- Markets unproven "cures," supplements, or treatments, or promotes a product or service for personal gain (no spam, no MLM, no affiliate pitching)
- Shares another person's private or health information without their clear consent
- Infringes anyone's intellectual-property or privacy rights
- Impersonates another person, or uses a false clinician credential
7. Moderation and enforcement
- Every post can be reported. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team.
- We may remove content, limit its distribution, add context, restrict features, or suspend or terminate accounts that violate these standards — with or without notice, at our discretion, and prioritizing member safety.
- We generally do not auto-delete posts that express distress or suicidal ideation; instead we surface crisis resources and route them for human review, because removing a cry for help can cause harm. See the Safety & Crisis Policy.
- We are not responsible for content posted by members. We host user-generated content and moderate it in good faith; we do not endorse it.
8. Direct messages
Direct messages are private between sender and recipient (enforced by database access controls) but are not end-to-end encrypted and should not be treated as medical-grade confidential communication. Do not use DMs to solicit or provide individualized medical care.
9. Clinician participation
- Verified clinicians participate to provide general education and to model trustworthy information — not to practice medicine on the platform.
- No clinician post creates a doctor–patient relationship, and none should be relied on as individualized medical advice.
- Clinicians must comply with their own professional, licensing, and advertising obligations and must not disclose patient information.
10. Intellectual property
The Service, its design, and the CanX name and marks belong to the Service operator. Member content belongs to members (§5). You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer the Service except as permitted by law.
11. Termination
You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. On deletion, your account data is removed within 30 days, except for: (a) content already shared with other members, (b) records we are legally required to retain, and (c) backups that expire on standard rotation.
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR THAT THE SERVICE OR ANY CONTENT IN IT IS ACCURATE OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL THE SERVICE OPERATOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR ANY CONTENT SHARED BY OTHER MEMBERS.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, excluding its conflicts-of-law principles.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be announced in-app and by email (where we have it) at least 30 days before they take effect.
